The Federation was saddened by the loss of one of their past Chairmen, W. Bro. Geoff Goodman, who died on January 12th 2014, aged 80. Geoff was Chairman between 2002 and 2004, and was a staunch supporter of the Federation, regularly attending the Annual Festivals. As an Old Albanian he encouraged the informal cluster meetings of School Lodges in Hertfordshire. On the change to the Federation’s membership rules, he was quick to ensure that the Old Albanian Chapter No. 4999 and the Scholars in Amity Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 1710 became members. Geoff was widely respected within many orders of Freemasonry and had set up a network of fellow masons who wished to attend Masonic meetings across the country and abroad, known as the ‘Hertfordshire Wanderers’. On moving to Norfolk, he expanded his network to include the ‘Norfolk Nomads’. His funeral took place in a packed St. Michael’s Church, St. Albans on February 3rd 2014.
John attended St Albans School in Hertfordshire and on leaving became a prominent member of the Old Boys Association later joining a Founding Member of the Federation, the Old Albanian Lodge No 4999.
He was a very active member of the Federation, being Festival Secretary at the Annual Festival held at St Albans School in 1981 and in the same year being appointed one of the Joint Federation Secretaries, a position that he held until 1992. He served as Chairman of the Federation from 1992 to 1994 and was elected as a Vice President in 1996.
A humble, modest and kindly man, very reliable, and above all a great team player, he will be sadly missed by us all and our deepest sympathies are with his wife Mary and his family.
