Obituary: W. Bro. E. David Humphries PAGDC PPrSGW(Staffs)

It was with great sadness that the Federation learnt of the loss of W. Bro. E. David Humphries PAGDC PPrSGW(Staffs), who died on July 1st 2019 (fittingly on the morning as a FSL Management Committee Meeting).  W. Bro. David served the Federation many years, having been Festival Secretary for the 1987 Festival under the banner of the Old Wulfrunians Lodge No. 7411.  He then served as Chairman from 1988 to 1990 and was elected a Vice President in 2008.  However, it was the many years between, when he served as a Joint Secretary in the halcyon days of the Federation along with W. Bro. Stuart Craig, that he will be long remembered. While Stuart concentrated on the ‘agenda’ items, David co-ordinated all the paperwork necessary for a smooth running of a Festival meeting long before the electronic age.  It is with huge gratitude that the Federation marks his dedication and service to the Federation for over three decades.  His funeral took place at Bushbury Crematorium, Wolverhampton on July 12th, attended by many members of his family, friends and brethren.

Obituary: W. Bro. Geoffrey Alan Goodman PJGD PPJGW(Herts)

The Federation was saddened by the loss of one of their past Chairmen, W. Bro. Geoff Goodman, who died on January 12th 2014, aged 80.  Geoff was Chairman between 2002 and 2004, and was a staunch supporter of the Federation, regularly attending the Annual Festivals.  As an Old Albanian he encouraged the informal cluster meetings of School Lodges in Hertfordshire.  On the change to the Federation’s membership rules, he was quick to ensure that the Old Albanian Chapter No. 4999 and the Scholars in Amity Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 1710 became members.  Geoff was widely respected within many orders of Freemasonry and had set up a network of fellow masons who wished to attend Masonic meetings across the country and abroad, known as the ‘Hertfordshire Wanderers’.  On moving to Norfolk, he expanded his network to include the ‘Norfolk Nomads’. His funeral took place in a packed St. Michael’s Church, St. Albans on February 3rd 2014.
